Children are always welcome on our ferries – after all, they are places of excitement and discovery! And you never know – quite a few little’uns who undertake their first sea voyage on one of our ferries may become sailors themselves in the future.
To make sure that our youngest passengers also follow maritime safety requirements in their rush to explore, we kindly ask that children under 15 years of age remain under the supervision of their parents or other adults onboard. To ensure maritime safety, it is important that we know the exact number of passengers on every trip. As such, we ask you to ‘buy’ a ticket even for children who are entitled to travel for free. More information concerning all types of tickets (incl. discounted tickets) can be found here.
While waiting for the ferry, you can visit the café and use the restrooms in the port building if you wish. At Virtsu, you will also find a parent & child lounge in the port building. Always keep an eye out for other vehicles while waiting in the port area or when on the car deck after driving onto the ferry. Vehicles may be moving, so in order to ensure safety and prevent accidents, it is a good idea to hold your child’s hand.

It is important to us that passengers with special needs feel welcome and catered for when arriving at the port and on the ferries.
Passengers with special needs are eligible for a variety of discounts, which can be found from the price list. You must log in to the e-service to buy discounted tickets.
When buying the e-ticket with the discount for the first time, please act as follows:
The documents evidencing eligibility for a discount:
We recommend purchasing an e-ticket using the e-service to secure a place on trips for which there is a higher demand. The vehicle with a maximum weight of up to 3,500 kg transporting a severely disabled person or a disabled person up to 16 years of age or a person with a deep or severe visual impairment is always given priority in the port with an e-ticket.
All well-behaved pets are welcome on our ferries.
To avoid problems during the journey, we ask that you make sure your pet has had the opportunity to walk and satisfy their needs before boarding. Follow the signs at the port indicating where walking with a pet is allowed, and please clean up after them.
During the trip you can leave your pet in your vehicle or if you wish, you can take a pet weighing no more than 15 kg up to the cabin, which has designated areas for pets. You must make sure that your pet does not disturb other passengers or the crew or endanger the safety or property of others on the ferry and at the port.
Dogs must be on a short leash at all times, and larger dogs (over 15 kg) must be muzzled while boarding and on the ferry. Other smaller pets must be in a special cage or carrier bag.
Environmentally friendly and sporty means of transport are always welcome, which is why a permanent discount is offered on passenger tickets for cyclists. A ticket must also be purchased for the bicycle.
More detailed instructions on boarding with a bicycle can be found here.
When travelling by motorbike, you have a keener sense of the surrounding environment than when driving a car. The sun, the wind and the scents of the fields and meadows around you distinguish motorcycle rides from car trips. The islands are wonderful places for enjoying all of this.
When arriving at the port with an e-ticket, head for the e-ticket lane.
To open the barrier, call the number on the barrier or on the self-service kiosk from the same phone whose number you entered when purchasing the e-ticket using the e-service, or scan the QR code on the ticket at the self-service kiosk. The code can be scanned from the screen of a mobile device or from paper. Hold the code 30-50 cm from the scanner. Thereafter, you will be directed to the priority boarding queue in the waiting area of the port.
If you buy a ticket from the ticket office, it is possible that there will be no room for your motorcycle on the requested trip. The usual arrangements apply to motorcycles in the port waiting area: passengers with e-tickets can board the requested ferry, but those who buy a ticket from the ticket office have to wait in the first-come, first-served queue.
While heading to the ferry follow the instructions of the crew member showing you the place for parking. It is highly recommended to secure the motorcycle while parked. If you do not have the equipment, you can ask one of the crew members for cargo straps or wheel chocks and secure your motorcycle in the designated place provided. If you wish to secure your motorcycle using cargo straps, please bring your own seat cover. The driver of the motorcycle is responsible for the safe and correct parking and securing of the motorcycle on the deck of the ferry.
We wish all motorcyclists a safe journey and a pleasant sea voyage!
Group trips
Group trips are a great way to experience the magic of Hiiumaa, Muhu and Saaremaa alongside friends, colleagues, classmates or new acquaintances. To make the boarding process as smooth as possible, we recommend buying tickets for the bus and all of the passengers using our e-service. Otherwise, tickets can be purchased for the bus and passengers at the ticket office. If you buy tickets at the ticket office, the bus will be directed to the first-come, first-served queue, from which vehicles board the ferry in order of arrival.
Please keep in mind that when travelling in a group:
Regular bus services
Regular buses also travel between Hiiumaa, Muhu, Saaremaa and the mainland with us. If you have bought a ticket to travel at least to the bus stop at the port of destination on a regular bus, then you do not have to buy a separate ferry ticket.
The vertical clearance on our ferries is 4.5 m and the width of the corridor at this height is 8 m. The maximum weight of a vehicle may be 44 t and the maximum axle load 13 t.
A large vehicle is wider than 2.6 m and/or higher than 4.0 m.
A heavy vehicle has an axle load of over 11.5 t or a maximum mass of over 44 t.
A special vehicle is a large or heavy vehicle with at least one of its dimensions or weight exceeding the maximum dimensions, mass or axle load allowed in Estonia.
The transportation of a large or heavy vehicle must be booked at least two working days before the requested departure. You can do this by accessing the e-service of praamid.ee, by contacting our customer support on 618 1310 or by e-mailing [email protected].
Ticket price
The special prices which apply to large or heavy vehicles and their trailers are based on the special coefficients established in our price list. For example, if a vehicle of regular size has a large trailer, the special coefficient is applied solely to the trailer.
At the port
When arriving at the port, follow the instructions sent to you by customer support and go to the separate area or switch to the lane indicated by the port operatives. In general, similar requirements apply to the movement of large, special and heavy vehicles at all ports. As you arrive at the port, before reaching the ticket offices, switch to the lane to the left of the area restricted by barriers. The captain of the ferry has the right to refuse to allow a large, special or heavy vehicle onboard if no advance notice of the need for its transportation has been provided or if the driver or company has not waited for confirmation, as the vehicle may damage the ferry or cause delays.
To find out what crossing options are available for special purpose vehicles, an application should be sent to TS Laevad ([email protected]) at least 14 business days before the desired trip. The crossing possibilities will be evaluated by the crew of TS Laevad on a case-by-case basis and the applicant will be informed of their decision three business days before the desired trip.
When submitting a request, provide us with the following:
Customer support will issue a ticket to customers with a contract who have sufficient credit or make an advance payment. If you have not entered into a customer contract, we ask you to pay for your ticket at the ticket office before boarding the ferry. If possible, stop at a distance from the ticket offices and make your way there on foot to obtain your ticket. Avoid transportation on the days and at the times that are most popular, if possible.
From 1 June to 31 August, it is recommended to plan the crossing of large or heavy vehicles only on early morning or late evening departures.
If a special vehicle is too large to drive through the ferry’s corridor for unloading, then the ferry must be repositioned. Information concerning the additional fee for this can be found in the price list.
Dangerous substances are transported on our ferries according to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code) adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Goods are considered dangerous if they include dangerous substances. You have to notify us of this when making your booking.
Hay is a highly flammable material (UN 1327, class 4.1) and the transportation of hay loads on ferries must therefore be in accordance with the requirements of the IMDG Code.
Review the transport instructions for highly flammable goods.
Live animals are generally transported on special trips that are also marked in the schedule. The general requirements of the vehicle and the transporting of the animals are laid down in the Animal Protection Act.
